A residence permit is a plastic card that allows a foreigner to legally reside in the country for a specified period of validity from one to four years. With this document you can freely visit other EU countries without the need for a visa. In addition, obtaining a residence permit is one of the stages on the path to French citizenship.
A residence permit in France can be extended up to 5 years. To renew, you must contact the OFII at your place of residence. The set of documents for renewal is the same as for the initial registration. It is important to submit your application 60 days before the expiration date of your current residence permit. After submitting the application, a response should be expected within 2 months. You will receive a notification of readiness by mail. Refusal to renew is possible if you have committed a crime in France or any other EU country.
Yes, spouses and minor children can apply for a residence permit together with the main applicant if he is an investor, a financially independent person or a participant in the Passport-Talent program. To do this, you simply need to include them in your application when applying for a visa. If the main applicant does not meet these categories, relatives can use the family reunification procedure.
Refusal to issue a residence permit may be due to the following reasons: – Incorrectly completed or incomplete documents. – Providing false information. – Insufficient income – Violation of the laws of France, another EU country or the Schengen area. – Previously received refusal of a residence permit in other EU countries. If you are denied a residence permit, you have the right to appeal this decision within two weeks by filing an appeal with the French Migration Service. If your appeal is rejected, you have two months to appeal to the trial court.
