The F-1 student visa is issued to those who intend to study at a university, college, private high school or English course in the United States, provided that the classes will take more than 18 hours per week.
Many work, but this is unofficial, since a student visa does not automatically provide a work permit; it can be obtained after studying in a certificate program. Spouses and dependent family members of student visa holders cannot work in the United States on derivative F visas.
If your visa is denied, the school will not refund your tuition fees. However, with prior notice, the start date of your studies may be postponed and you can apply for the visa again.
